dready s the crosswalk at KFC – 36×14 – original on canvas

when am asked to do a dready family portrait the hardest part is often the concept … it has to say something about the family, it has to say something about dreadyness, it has to have a place and a time and it cyant be like the others that I’ve done …

i was looking through the family’s photos, trying to get a feel for everybody and came across one with a group of friends having fun on a crosswalk in Paris and thought … yes man.

i wandered around george town looking for the right  crosswalks and photographing them from all sorts of directions.

couple things drew me to this one: is a little slice of old george town that is still left, it is an often photographed and drawn and painted scene and i wanted to put the dready stamp on it …

the sea in the background makes for a beautiful scene, the fact that we all know the red building is kfc and i wanted a chicken crossing the road …

and finally … the yellow buildings on the right had all belonged to my father when i was a yute so they mean a thing or two to me, I used to spend time on this corner of shedden rd when i visited him …

a few other fun things happened along the way but the end result’s something i really like.

yes man!

About Dready

Dready art is a 100% caribbean product: it was imagined here, designed here, tested here – in barbados, bvi, cayman, grenada and jamaica – we live here and are from here, our children were born here, I draw it here (mostly, cause sometimes I draw it when I’m traveling!). So despite what has become the kind of global reach of dready art we try to think of ourselves as a little caribbean company just doing our thing.
