dready, campo san angelo, venice: 16×16 – limited edition print
there are things that you draw because you want to do them and this was one of them …
the thing about venice is that everywhere you turn there are beautiful things, lovely corners … and this campo, just around the corner from where we were staying, was no exception …
in the day time it was quiet, tranquil but in the evening 2 restaurants would open, behind this point of view and the campo came into a different kind of life.
everything in venice moves first by boat and then by hand-truck – water water everywhere and not a drop to drink, except bottled and in orange crates! they were so evident in the mornings before life had truly come to the city that I had to put one in …
and every time we sat down (and I’m guessing here) old world warblers (little brown birds) pitched up at the table wanting to share your tramezzini with you … lurking in the sun is a cat, because someone said, ‘it’s venice, you need a cat!’ and beyond, lurking in more sun, at the edge of a canal, two lovers kiss …
live, love, life …
