dready art Juta Driver – 27×40 – limited edition print on canvas
people often ask me, ‘what kind of art do you do?’
it’s hard to explain …
it is at once graphic ‘fine’ art, faux primitive, it is like poster art, in that it uses large blocks of colour and there’s that hint of pop art to it, a feeling of the 60’s and 70’s …
but in truth it is something all of it’s own, ’cause it’s a mixture of all those things, with a hint of whimsy and a distinct caribbean-ness thrown in as well …
anyhow, the whole thought of ‘poster’ art got my brain ticking and i used a mash up to create ‘juta driver’ … the image at the top.
in jamaica the taxi association is called Juta, they of course don’t drive yellow cabs, but i couldn’t do the taxi driver mash-up without one.
not a martin scorcese film!
