dready … it fills itself out as you draw

Dready, Dready Art and Everything Dready

dready, part of an unfinished thing … ‘we sway’ – 12×12

i wasn’t feeling well; fuzzy and mildly feverish, stuffy head, but I hadn’t drawn anything in a week and it was itching me …

I’d wanted to draw a land rover defender 90 …

but I had an idea to create a scene around it; a couple walking away from the landy or to it, hadn’t and haven’t still decided – but them, I’ve been drawing them all day …

maybe the back of the land rover would be open … it’s all a process, you have a vague idea and it fills itself out as you draw … the shoes, the shadows, the bottle of red stripe beer, they all come to you as you go.

because they’re a t’ing, a fashion amongst caribbean peoples and especially jamaicans, the characters are wearing clarks, desert boots …

the desert boots came first really, they started all this; i saw them, mine sitting on the persian rug this morning and i photographed them to use them in a drawing …

and it kinda filled itself out as i drew it …

love!

About Dready

Dready art is a 100% caribbean product: it was imagined here, designed here, tested here – in barbados, bvi, cayman, grenada and jamaica – we live here and are from here, our children were born here, I draw it here (mostly, cause sometimes I draw it when I’m traveling!). So despite what has become the kind of global reach of dready art we try to think of ourselves as a little caribbean company just doing our thing.
