dready art ‘josiah’s beach’ – 50×20 – original triptych on canvas
at the end of last year, 2017, two back to back hurricanes Irma and Maria, mashed up the BVI and several other countries in their path;
I’d just taken this commission a few weeks before irma …
in the aftermath it kinda held extra poignancy for the couple and they were anxious to see it done … theirs wasn’t a life completely lost as they still live there, but a life completely changed, and this was, perhaps to be a reminder of things that ‘used to were’.
having lived through several hurricanes and one major, personally devastating one (and one devastating but not personally) I know the sensation of what someone called ‘the new normal’ …
the choice to make this a triptych came slowly as I was drawing it; it started with the want for more sky … and then the size of the end image started to evolve, it started to get bigger and bigger.
first it was just a diptych with the extra sky and then I had an urge to cut it and make it 3 …
bless …
