the land rover is awaiting back-ordered parts and so have been thinking about it …
and in truth the journey we took yesterday was a journey in another car, not because the land rover can’t drive, but because we’re not with it, but it’s obviously with us, with me anyhow …
we passed through the town where my paternal grandmother was born and then turned left and down; we went through towns like junction and southfield … the land was dry and the sky blue …
we turned left again and down to a spot where the world fell steeply away to the sea …
there were goats (and little kittens) and dry brown grass and lignum vitae trees and logwood … the wispy sere smell of sunbaked dryness …
and then this black sand beach …
