dready ‘it’s actually a lambretta’ – 25x16inch – HD Archival pigment print
it’s actually a lambretta … but who’s counting!
normally dready has a vibe that is almost completely its own … you see things that are similar, you can find influences, but nothing falls into exactly the same mould – this whimsical mash-up of pop and poster art with a west indian attitude thrown in for good measure …
but this dready really does smack of a robert mcginnis, and I like robert mcginnis …
but, also a thought crossed my mind after listening to a talk at the national gallery last night about a man going away in order to break the chains placed on his mind and to truly transcend and become what he could become …
we are no longer islands lost at the end of some banana boat trip back in time, and so both our visions of ourselves and and and our actualities have evolved so that we can be west indians and dressed in italian cut suits; we can go to kingston, jamaica, and find high quality brie cheese and a cabernet from india, and at the same time a bun with tinned cheese and a red stripe, and enjoy these dualities of self expression, that experience allows us to imagine, without sacrifices our basic identity.
big up …
