dready – a modern grace kelly

dready art ‘the modern grace kelly’ – 12×12 – image
i was doing some research for a 50’s/60’s beach vibe for two projects, one for Jamaica and one for Cayman, when I came across some photos by howell conant, shot in Jamaica, at Round Hill, of a 27 year old grace kelly …
they were very cool, but in the end I really only used them as part of a mood board at the time …
then, a few weeks ago, I came across them again – it’s a really nice shoot, lots of feels in the photos; sensuality, shyness, tranquility, happiness – and noticing that the high waisted swimsuit and high wasted shorts fashions she was wearing were kinda fashionable again (as they had been in the 70’s) – same idea but different, less loose, more body fitting … they fit into and actually made an idea I was looking for.
so with that evolution in hand I drifted into the thought of what might a modern day version, of a young woman of strength, look like visiting Jamaica today; taking the idea of the vibes of those older moments and modernising them, finding a good ‘stance’ for her etc …
there was a moment’s choice between whether she’d be holding a beer or a cell-phone, because modern world people always have their phone in their hand – I drew both versions and asked max for his input … he chose the one with the beer …
the modern grace kelly, like the mika song, can be anything she fucking wants.
and then I thought maybe she’d be meeting people and so I asked madeleine if by her self or with people and she chose with people …
and now am working on the vibe of that … while trying not to interfere with the ‘power’ of the woman herself, and beginning to think she might just deserve a space of her own … still thinking
strength …
