I’ve never played field hockey …
I’ve gone to watch it a few times, my sister used to play at school and now a few male friends play here in cayman and so have been to watch twice.
but I never really knew the vibe of the game, didn’t have it in my head, and so at first I found it difficult to find the feeling for the art …
but looking through photos and chatting to Adrian, I began to understand a little better and so how hockey players see themselves came out – I liked it immediately I drew it – it made me smile, it had real verve to it …
but the art was all for part of the dept of tourisms link up with old cranleighan hockey club and so I also had to do something ‘beachy’ for the peoples to sell the ‘idea of cayman’ to the pubic …

the old gaol is an actual spot in george town – it doesn’t look like that at all! – it’s a little restaurant tucked in behind the museum, in downtown, on the waterfront, in what was the old jail in the days when the museum was the old courthouse … and gaol, pronounced goal, is another name for jail/lock up.
and so, we have hockey players on the ‘idyllic beach’ …
goooooooooal …
