I love Tofino, it’s an amazing place on Vancouver Island, the nature, the surrounding wilderness, the light, the colour … it’s all cool …

artists portraying the Canadian landscape, often seem to have a theme – one that has a ‘moodiness’ at its core – and I wanted to subjugate that and come at it from a different angle … I thought you know, you can look out at the beach at Wikaninnish and see the dramatic or you can see the calm, you can see the dark greys or you can see how the light of the sky and the light of the wet sand almost become one, how they mingle … you can imbue the scene with the serenity that you’re feeling: that all sounds very arty doesn’t it!

but anyhow I think that I have drawn the antithesis of the usual … which is, for me, cool ..
