the Queen’s new vibe

Just before the Queen died, her grandson William and his wife Kate, had a pretty bad PR failure with their visit to Jamaica and Belize – prince Harry’s earlier visits were without ‘pomp and circumstance’, made up of moments of connection with people, interaction and fun; he ran a race with Usain Bolt … people liked Harry, he made the monarchy look cool, seeeen.

Will and Kate’s visit had the trappings of old t’ings, yeah, of colonialism, and uniform, and people noticed … the press and the governments were dying to notice and kick up a fuss, and make noise they did.

I spent my holidays, home from school, half in Jamaica with my mother, half in Belize with my father … I know these places, and so, you know, I had this idea that the Queen, in a PR push, after the terrible visit, re-imagined herself in a new Caribbean style vibe, to catch back the people, sporting her red yellow and green and listening to she dancehall.

maybe a touch sacrilegious …

peace …

About Dready

Dready art is a 100% caribbean product: it was imagined here, designed here, tested here – in barbados, bvi, cayman, grenada and jamaica – we live here and are from here, our children were born here, I draw it here (mostly, cause sometimes I draw it when I’m traveling!). So despite what has become the kind of global reach of dready art we try to think of ourselves as a little caribbean company just doing our thing.
