the dready forest for the dready trees

Posted on December 12, 2014 by AUTHOR (edit in theme settings)

dready art sea grape forest -

the beach 'round here used to be more full of sea grape - hurricane ivan mash them up, and the mangrove too, but elsewhere, above the tide line, the sea grapes flourish.

there's a single sea grape, creating an arbor, in the corner of the garden, under which, is a day bed, shaded by the branches and the leaves ... and i have 2 little sea grape trees growing at the edge of the beach.

there's a 'character' to the trees; mottled and nobly, with branches growing off in all sorts of directions.

you can make jams and jellys from the grapes, or eat them when they ripe … the wood makes good fire; in their shade crabs crawl and birds make their nests.

so sea grapes are a thing around here, part of the scenery and I had to fit some into a commission - and as I did they seemed to warrant a life of their own - they have an importance, a significance of place … so here they are.

in the end I chose to portray only what was under the canopy, I left out the leaves - they're only indicated by the shadows on the ground … it's because you, i never notice them really; i hear them rattle together above me ...

tranquility …
